Chandigarh- Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Dr. Amit Kumar Agrawal today informed that the maintenance work of all public libraries across the state has been given to the Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, under which the public libraries at Ambala, Karnal and Gurugram will be modernised in the first phase. This work will be done by Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund.
Dr. Agrawal further informed that amidst the era of Information Technology, the trend of reading books has been declining. Everyone is shifting towards digital learning using cell phones and laptops. The books are rich source of knowledge. He urged the public to develop habit of reading books. Taking this step forward, the Chief Minister has entrusted the Information, Public Relations and Languages Department with the responsibility of modernizing the district libraries of Ambala, Karnal and Gurugram. These libraries will be modernized by installing new infrastructure so as to infuse interest among the readers. Besides this, the Department will also maintain the public libraries of all the districts in the state. Earlier this responsibility came under the Higher Education Department, he added.
Dr. Agrawal said that in these modern libraries, the list of books will be made available online where readers can select books according to their interest. Apart from this, the facility of reading books online through digital medium will also be available in these libraries, he added.
