Karandeep-Ottawa, ON | May 15, 2025 — In a key move ahead of the new Parliament session, Prime Minister Mark Carney today announced the appointment of Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, as the new Chief Government Whip.
Mr. Gerretsen, who has represented Kingston and the Islands since 2015, brings a wealth of parliamentary experience to the role. He has previously served as Deputy Government House Leader, Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, and has been an active member of multiple parliamentary committees.
As the 45th Parliament is set to begin its session on May 26, 2025, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the road ahead.
“The decisions made by this new Parliament will be decisive for Canada’s future. We will govern constructively and collaboratively, working with Caucus and across parties in Parliament to deliver the change that Canadians voted for,” said Carney.
