Chandigarh: Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26 Chandigarh, has been honored with the State Award 2023 for its exceptional management of Single Use Plastic and E-Waste. The award was presented under the Mission Waste to Wealth initiative, which was organized by Swarmani Youth Welfare Association UT, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, and Education Department, Chandigarh Administration. SGGSC was ranked second among all colleges in the region for its remarkable waste management practices.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sh. Sanjay Tandon, former President of BJP Chandigarh, and President of UT Cricket, who was the Chief Guest of the day. Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh, Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh, and Dr. Nemi Chand, State Liason Officer (NSS), were also present as Guests of Honour. Dr. Navjot Kaur, Principal of SGGSC, along with Dr. Sugandha Kohli, Coordinator of Dharat Suhavi Environment Society, and Dr. Harsimran Kaur, Coordinator of Solid Waste Management Committee of the College, received the award on behalf of the college.
The College's efforts in successfully managing single-use plastic and e-waste, as well as its adoption of sustainable waste management practices, were highly appreciated during the event. The award is a testament to the College's commitment to the environment and its dedication to promoting sustainable practices in the community.
