Karandeep-Brampton, Ontario — Mayor Patrick Brown has announced he will bring forward a motion at the June 17, 2026 Brampton City Council meeting to formally recognize the life and service of Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali, who was killed in the line of duty.
Constable Bali, a young officer described by Mayor Brown as someone who served with courage, professionalism, and integrity, made the ultimate sacrifice while working to protect the public. His passing has been felt deeply across the policing community and far beyond.
Bali's ties to Brampton run deep. He was raised in the city after his family immigrated to Canada from India, and he maintained close family connections to Brampton throughout his life. Following his tragic death, residents came together in grief and remembrance, with flags lowered at Brampton City Hall in his honour.
The motion before Council proposes that the City work closely with the Bali family to identify a suitable park to be renamed in Constable Bali's memory, along with appropriate public recognition and commemoration to permanently enshrine his legacy in the city that helped shape him.
In a statement released ahead of the Council meeting, Mayor Brown said: "Constable Bali's passing is a profound loss for his family, his colleagues in the OPP, and for the Brampton community that helped shape him. He embodied what it means to serve others, and he will be remembered not only for his sacrifice, but for his commitment to protecting the lives of others."
Mayor Brown added: "He was, and will always be remembered as, a hero in life and we celebrate our heroes."
The City of Brampton Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2026.
CN Canada Network extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Constable Tarun Bali.
