Karandeep - BRAMPTON, ON – April 25, 2025 : The City of Brampton is taking a major step toward making recreation more accessible for older adults. Starting June 1, 2025, residents aged 65 and older will now be eligible for a free Annual Recreation Membership, expanding on last year’s successful 70+ initiative.
The move, which lowers the age threshold from 70 to 65, opens the door for thousands more Brampton seniors to access the City’s wide range of recreational programs — including fitness centres, swimming, skating, dance, sports drop-ins, aquafit, walking tracks, and more — at no cost.
“Our seniors helped build this city. By expanding free recreation access, we’re removing financial barriers and giving back to those who’ve contributed so much,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.
To register, eligible residents can visit any Brampton recreation centre with proof of age, Brampton residency, and Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
The original 70+ membership program saw over 7,000 participants in its first year. With this expansion, the City expects even greater engagement and a boost in physical, social, and mental well-being among Brampton’s senior population.
“This isn’t just about free access. It’s a proactive investment in health and quality of life,” said Councillor Rowena Santos, Chair of Community Services.
Brampton is home to more than 82,000 residents aged 65 and older, and the City continues to prioritize their inclusion and active living through initiatives like this one, which align with its Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
